DC-offset is always present on the mains, although not always to a great extent. The smallest amount however, creates a restlessness in your sound and vision.
Direct Current on the mains is caused by asymmetrical loads, for example a hairdryer at half power. Also printers, photo copiers and espresso-machines are known for their DC-generating properties. It causes cores in audio-power transformers to saturate, causing them to hum. Another point is, that DC will limit the ability of transformers to deliver large peak-currents undistorted. When peak currents are drawn, distortion will rise to an unacceptable level. Transformers may get warmer, even hotter so to say. Particularly American-made transformers are sensible to this, because they were designed for their mains frequency, which is 60 Hz instead of 50 Hz (European standard). Often, this DC fluctuates to such a great extent that transformers not only start to hum, but are limited in their ability to deliver the peak-currents needed to feed the equipment in the right way! On top of this, a humming transformer will set vibrations through the chassis, and, as nearly all parts are micro phonic, this will blur your sound. Last point, is that all steel parts on the primary side of the power supply will get magnetized, resulting in another adverse effect on sound quality. It is quite clear: something has to be done about this, one of the possibilities is to install a POWER DC X-TERMINATOR, which has, to enhance sound quality one step further, a parallel suppressor is fitted (SNS MODULE).
|The POWER DC X-TERMINATOR is a serial solution to this problem. Serial means, that the unit has to be connected in series with the (humming) equipment. Just connect the DC X-TERMINATOR''s plug to the wall-outlet, then plug in the plug from the humming piece of equipment into the socket of the DC X-TERMINATOR, and voila, the hum has gone.
NOTE: The POWER DC X-TERMINATOR is not capable of reducing hum in bad transformers. If some strip from the transformer-core has come loose, or a winding is loose, you should replace the transformer. This can't be cured by any device from outside!
To determine, if you actually suffer from DC on your mains, act as follows:Listen carefully close to your equipment, if you have any hum at all. If the answer is yes, then stay there for a while, and listen carefully. Does the hum alter in time, you can be sure, that DC on the line is the cause of this hum. Do you hear a very constant hum, always present and always the same loudness, the transformer itself may well be the cause.

creates an even more natural sound and the harmonic structure of the bass widens. The frequency response seems to extend to the lower regions. Gold plated contacts ensure the best contact possible from the beginning, and they ensure this good contact stays for longer periods of time.
