AN OUTLINE TO UNDISTURBE YOUR EQUIPMENT
- All the mains plugs of the audio/video equipment should be phased in the right way.
- The audio/video equipment should be connected to a separate, dedicated mains spur.
- Connect as much as possible equipment to earth.
- Always use shielded/absorbing power cords.
- The complete audio/video system should be shielded against electro-magnetic radiation.
- Install the KE-POWER SOURCE.
ANNOTATIONS FOR THIS OUTLINE
- Note: for the UK market it is not possible to turn the mains plug to change line and neutral positions. One has to openthe mains plug and exchange the live and neutral wires. Connect the power amplifier to the mains without in- and outputs connected andwithout earth. Measure with the aid of a digital multimeter the AC-voltage between the ground at the input of the poweramplifier compared to the earth of the mains and try to get the lowest potential by turning the mains plug. Next, thepreamplifier has to be connected, without in-, outputs, and earth, and measure the potential difference between the ground ofthe input of the power amplifier and the ground of the output of the preamplifier. The potential difference between them hasto be minimized by turning the mains plug. Next, the potential difference between the outputs of the CD-player, DAT-recorder,cassette player, and/or tuner and the inputs of the preamplifier has to be diminished by turning the mains plugs. To phasethe tuner, TV and video you have to disconnect the cable antenna. It is possible that by turning the mains plug there will beno diminishing in voltage. In that case, you have to find the right position by listening. When this is done with the utmostcare, there will be left a minimum of residue voltage in the A/V equipment so the rest currents in the ground conductors ofthe interconnects are minimized which means that the signal transfer is as clean as possible.
- A shielded cable of 2.5 mm2 minimum has to be made between the consumer unit of the main switch equipment and theaudio/video system. Use a separate group for this. Automatic fuses in the domestic supply are not recommended. The best onesto use are the old-fashioned cartridge type. One has to use a 16 A fuse to protect the KE-POWER SOURCE.
- A remarkable improvement will be notified when you connect all your equipment to earth as long as there is no groundloop created. To function correctly the KE-POWER SOURCE should always be connected to a good, clean earth, which is requiredto remove mains-borne pollution. The better the earth connection (i.e. non polluted and low resistance) the better the KEPOWER SOURCE will perform! To prevent a ground loop with the cable antenna we recommend a mantle current filter for galvanicseparation. This will produce an enhancement in sound and vision quality. Nevertheless we strongly advice you to detach yourcable antenna when you do not use it. Your antenna cable is in fact a source of distortion for your entire audio/video system.
- Out of the outlets of the KE-POWER SOURCE a clean voltage will appear. The effect of the KE-POWER SOURCE will be reducedwhen you use non-shielded power cords to connect your equipment, as they will act as an antenna for interference. Theadvantage of shielded power cords is that they radiate a minimum of distortions and in this way will not be of any influenceto the signal cables. Take care to keep the power cords and the signal cables as far apart from each other as possible. Atthe same time those distortions, which are caused by the equipment, need to be absorbed, so other equipment will not beinfected. The absorbing of distortions will be done by ferrite powder in the power cord (the potential energy of distortionswill be dissipated in the ferrite).
- For a distortion free audio/video system, your whole set has to be shielded against EMI (electro-magneticinterference). That implies that an open chassis (e.g. a tube amplifier) is quite unacceptable. A non shielded loudspeakercable also acts as an antenna for interference, which may feed back to the input of the amplifier. When you have a metalaudio rack it should be connected to earth, as well as your speakers (loudspeaker chassis).
- If you follow the guidance notes above, you will be able to achieve a pollution-free environment for your audio andvideo equipment. When you insert the KE-POWER SOURCE the result will be a dramatic improvement: cleaner presentation of thesound, improved dynamics, better defined low and midrange with greater overall detail and definition. Be careful: by usingthe KE-POWER SOURCE, the loop-effect will be enhanced. In the past your electricity grid was probably the weakest link in thechain
